Poem by Wendell Berry titled to signify the day after President John F. Kennedy, Jr. was laid to rest, was first published in the magazine The Nation in 1964. It profoundly inspired Ben Shahn, who said: When I read the poem, I wanted it preserved, read, not lost in the pages of a last weeks magazine.
