Western Asiatic Haematite Stamp Seal

1st millennium BC. A D-shaped haematite stamp seal with intaglio scene of two bovines attacked by a pouncing wolf. 9.4 grams, 16mm (1/2"). From the property of a London gentleman; thence by descent; previously in an important private Mayfair, London collection, acquired after 1970; originally catalogued by Professor W.G. Lambert (No. 166").
