Rare hand-coloured wood-block print mounted as a hanging scroll depicting the Wheel of Life (goshush?jirin) with the Wheel with five classes of being kept in the clutches of the ‘Devil of Impermanence’.
Above him floats the ‘Circle of Emptiness’. With an explanation of the picture dated: Kaei 3 (1850). The Japanese Wheel of Life shows many points of resemblance with far better known Tibetan Wheel of Life (kalachakra) but differs in some respects.
This scroll has horizontal wrinkles. Please check pictures.
