White jade plaque "Two wise men and pupil" Qing Dynasty

White jade plaque with carved skin. Rectangular and broad in profile. It is carved on both sides and shows, on the obverse side, on the upper part, all carved with scrolls and incised designs and the hole for the rope to pass through. Framed within the central rectangle is a scene depicting three knights manipulating the interior of a large vessel. Two of them are elderly and the third is a young apprentice. On the reverse there is a large relief writing signed by the author in the lower left-hand part of the text. This is framed in the centre with the same head as the obverse. Carving of great quality and technique, all highlighted by the golden-orange tone of the skin of the jade itself, the skin being the bark of the jade stone created over thousands of years in nature before carving, in its natural state.
