Wiedemann Brewing Advertisment after Charles Meurer
"A Royal Flush" trompe l'oeil chromolithograph on board is after the painting of the same name by Charles Meurer. Commissioned by the brewery in 1899, the work served dual purpose: to serve as an advertisement hung in saloons and shops of the day, and to reinforce the brewery's stance on patriotism and the state of the Union. Meurer was well known for his still-life scenes and often painted currency as a manner of satire. The work displays the title "A Royal Flush" in the bottom left, and the mark of the printer "The Tuchfarber Co, Cinti." in the bottom right. 13.5" H x 19.5" W (sight) 16.5" H x 22.5" W (frame).
Condition Report: No major cracks to the board; flaking and chipping consistent with age; more significant loss to paint on the edges; two small nail holes.
