Willem Schellinks - The Country House of Burgomaster Nicolaes Pancras
Willem Schellinks
The Country House of Burgomaster Nicolaes Pancras
Oil on canvas (relined). 52 x 59 cm.
Traces of a signature lower centre: W...ks.
In 1658 Pancras acquired the Wester-Amstel estate on the Amstel near Nieuwer-Amstel. This is probably the estate depicted by Schellinks. The lions on the fence hold the coats of arms of the Pancras family (left) and of the Waert and Corver families (right).
The present painting is probably a second autograph version of the picture in the Amsterdam Museum (inv. no. A 408), which Schellinks executed together with Adriaen van de Velde.
Provenance
From an old South German family collection.
