Willemite Franklin Mine, Franklin, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA "A 4 cm crystal of willemite, the top half is dark amber colored and fairly transparent. It could cut some stones. Traded this specimen from the George Vaux collection at Bryn Mawr when Harold Arndt was curator." - Rock H. Currier The fluorescent minerals of the Franklin-Sterling Hill area mines are world renowned for their variety and perfection. Willemite holds an exalted position among the collecting community for its extreme variety of forms and appearances: both in daylight and under UV illumination. In spite of an almost constant presence in specimens from the area, euhedral crystals of Willemite are not frequently encountered. Even much less so are ones showing any pretenses as to transparency. Being extraordinarily transparent, this one is a smoker among the wanna-bes, and at 4 cm, it isn't little either. There is custom acrylic base to show off this little wonder along with the original Vaux label. Overall Measurements: 1.6 x 1.6 x 1.2 inches (4.0 x 4.0 x 3.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Bryn Mawr College, Ex. George Vaux Collections [RHC #2775, acquired 1975] [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
