William DIDIER-POUGET (1864-1959) . Untitled, beautiful oil on canvas, signed on the bottom right, depicting a landscape in the South West of France at sunset (Dordogne or Creuse) . Magnificent flamboyant colours. Dimensions: Height: 32 cm, width: 50 cm. In good overall condition (a few little chips: see photos) . Present in many museums (Louvre, Musée des beaux-arts in Bordeaux) , he mainly produced views of south-west France, favouring light and colour. A pupil of Amédée Baudit, Louis-Augustin Auguin (associate of Corot and Courbet) and Maxime Lalanne, William Didier-Pouget's career began in 1886, when his painting ‘L'Étang de Cernay’ was noticed at the Salon des artistes français. He was a member of the Society of French Artists, a member of the Crozant School and of the Society of Mountain Painters. Winner of the competition of the Institute in Troyon, he was made an officer of the Order of Nichan Iftikhar, of the Order of Pride (Tunisia) , and a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1901. He won a medal at the 1900 World's Fair and then a gold medal at the 1913 World's Fair in Ghent, becoming a member of the jury and then classified as out-of-competition at the Salon des artistes français. He was buried in Paris at the Montmartre cemetery.
