BIOGRAPHY:
This accomplished 19th century British painter specialised in genre scenes and portraits.Although of British extraction he worked in Paris at the beginning of his career and was there in 1830. On his return to England he married Mary Cadman in Dover on the 11th of February 1837. From then on he settled in Dover (75 Margate Street) and most of his work was centred in and around Kent.He exhibited in London from 1841 to 1867 with titles such as "Portraits of Three Children" (1846), "Playing at Cat's Cradle" (1847) and "The Jack o' Lantern" (1853).In all he showed 8 of his paintings at the Royal Academy, 11 at the British Institute, 6 at Suffolk Street and throughout his career in Dover.
