William Fleming Vallance Pair of Water Colours c1880

Two fine watercolours by William Fleming Vallance (1827-1904) who was a Scottish marine, portrait and genre painter.
Born in Paisley, Vallance apprenticed as a carver and gilder to Messrs Aitken Dott. He studied at Trustees Academy and under R.S Lauder and became an associate of the Royal Society of Arts in 1875 and The Royal Scottish Academy in 1881. His has exhibited 9 pieces at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, 93 at the Royal Scottish Academy and 8 at the Royal Society of Watercolorists.
Vallance used his paintings to show fine detail but also the play of light, reminiscent of the early Newlyn School. He signs with WF Vallance RSA and both are framed and Glazed.
