Note:
MacKenzie was a Belfast-born artist who went on to study under Sir Edward Poynter (1836-1919) at the Royal Academy in London. He was a versatile painter whose subjects consisted of landscapes as much as portraits and genre scenes. The present work is a particularly charming example of his figure paintings, and is on an unusually large scale for the artist.
