William Harry Ahrendt (American, B. 1933) Oil on Board, Ca. 1980s, "Francisco Vázquez De Coronado", H 24" W 18" | Signed in the lower left. Portrait of the Spanish conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado in full armor. Coronado's expedition in 1540-42 from present day Mexico to Kansas led to many discoveries, including that of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River. Having a giltwood frame, H 32.5", W 26.5". This painting was featured on the cover of the April 1984 issue of Arizona Highways "In Coronado's Footsteps". a copy of this magazine is included with the painting. the magazine has an inscription in the interior from the artist that reads "To Bill and Barbara Hinkley with my best regard and sincere appreciations. Bill Ahrendt". Provenance: From the collection of Susan Moran, Royal Oak, MI. Purchased 1-18-2013, Avery Lane, Scottsdale, AZ.
