William Henry Mander, British 1850-1922- Swallow Falls, North Wales; oil on canvas, signed and inscribed ‘'Swallow Falls’ N. Wales / W. H. Mander’ on the reverse, 76.6 x 127.5 cm. Note: Mander specialised in painting landscape views in both North Wales and the Midlands, and indeed was so intrigued with the Welsh landscape that he moved to Dolgellau, from the Midlands, in 1899. His work appears indebted to the landscapes of Benjamin Williams Leader RA (1831-1923), and is generally conceived in a naturalistic style. As here, he frequently utilises rich, earthy colours to significant effect.
