William Hogarth (1697-1764), Seguace - Taste in High Life

[ translate ]

William Hogarth (London, 1697 - ibid. , 1764) follower, Taste in High Life, oil on panel, 48. 7 x 56. 8 cm.

Painting of high technical quality and rarity, it is a contemporary copy of the famous painting by William Hogarth (1697-1764) , Taste in High Life (or Taste à-la-Mode) , from 1742, a masterpiece which returned to the market last year and sold at 2. 5 million British pounds.
"Taste in high life" is considered one of Hogarth's masterpieces: an ironic and highly sought-after painting, it is a milestone in English painting. The example on sale here is a contemporary copy, which differs from the original due to some differences in the colors of the characters' clothes. The painting is signed, but the signature has not been deciphered (we have published two macro photographs of the signature, which is inside the painting hanging on the wall behind the protagonists, in a game of mise en abyme as ironic and refined as the painting itself) . Obviously the interpretation of the signature would greatly increase the value of the painting.
The technical quality of our painting is very high and very close to Hogarth's original, so much so that we could think that it was painted by one of his direct students.

The work is in good condition with some restorations. Of note are two horizontal lines of breakage in the panel, restored but clearly visible in the photograph on the back and slightly visible also on the front. The table retains a splendid chromatic liveliness. Other minor restorations on the surface. Worth noting is the natural aging crack.

Work provided with Certificate of Authenticity and Legitimate origin.
Shipped via express courier 24/48 hours with INSURANCE.

Please note that in the case of SALE ABROAD the shipment can only be made AFTER HAVING OBTAINED THE EXPORT AUTHORIZATION FROM THE MINISTRY OF CULTURAL HERITAGE (Certificate of Free Movement of Fine Arts) . This practice generally involves a minimum WAIT of approximately 20 days.
