William Hogarth (British, 1697-1764)

Four Unframed Engravings: The Five Orders of Perriwigs..., 1761, The Analysis of Beauty, Plate 1, 1753, Characters and Caricaturas, 1743, from Marriage-a-la-Mode, and The Chorus, 1732. Three of the four signed and titled in the plates, all stamped "Duplicate Sold by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston," and bearing the collector's stamp "H.F.S." in red (see below), identified in pencil on the reverse. Sheet sizes to 15 x 19 1/2 in. Condition: Beauty with folding creases, all with pale foxing and mounting residue to the reverse.

N.B. The collector's stamp belongs to Henry Foster Sewall (New York 1816-1896). After Sewall's death, his collection was offered for sale, and in 1897 the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston bought the collection in its entirety.
