A 1p typed letter signed by future 25th U.S. President William McKinley (1843-1901), as "W McKinley" at center, recently reelected as Ohio Governor. November 13, 1893. [Columbus, Ohio]. Typed in blue on a leaf of watermarked stationery with "State of Ohio / Executive Department / Office of the Governor" letterhead. Expected wear including flattened transmittal folds and a few extra wrinkles. Isolated foxing, edge chipping, and marginal closed tears, else near fine. 7.75" x 10.75."

Governor McKinley thanked a fellow townsman from Canton, Ohio named I. Jay Knapp for his well wishes following the former's gubernatorial reelection, in part: "Please accept my warmest thanks for your cordial congratulations over the splendid victory of last Tuesday."

"Last Tuesday" referred to Ohio's 1893 gubernatorial election, held on Tuesday, November 7, 1893. McKinley, the Republican incumbent, had persuasively defeated Democratic challenger Lawrence T. Neal, Prohibition candidate Gideon P. Macklin, and Populist contender Edward J. Bracken during the contest. McKinley served as Governor of Ohio from January 1892 through January 1896, and as U.S. President from March 1897 until his assassination in September 1901.
