MUDFORD, WILLIAM

An Historical Account of the Campaign in the Netherlands in 1815... London: Henry Colburn, 1817. First edition, Old three-quarters red morocco, marbled sides, all edges marbled. 11 15/8 x 10 3/4 inches (32 x 27 cm); xx, 368 pp., half-title present; with two folding maps, the folding plate of the field of Waterloo, the engraved title (colored), the portraits of the general officers as frontispiece, and plates A-W (with D-D, the plate of the Waterloo Memorial, and the unnumbered "Flight of Bonaparte" plate at the end, but lacking (as in most copies) the "View of the City of Brussels," which is not mentioned in the "Description of Plates." Light binding wear, some separation of the Waterloo map at the folds, minor finger-soil, a minor marginal tear (about 1/4 inch) to a few plates at the end, generally a very nice copy indeed.

The very fine plates in this work are aquatints and etchings. Other than the view of Brussels, this collates as Abbey; of this plate, Abbey says "it may be a supplementary plate of which few survive." Abbey Life 372; Tooley 272.
