Note: Sir Nicholas Goodison noted Beverley, like several other 19th century artists including George Chambers, David Cox, David Roberts and Clarkson Stanfield, was a theatre scene painted who became a successful watercolour painter. He worked at the Theatre Royal, Manchester, and moved to London in 1846, working at the Lyceum, Covent Garden and Drury Lane, becoming involved in the management of several playhouses. His work has a keen sense of atmosphere and is especially centred on coastal, marine and Thames river scenes. Between 1865 and 1880 he exhibited 28 watercolours at the Royal Academy.
