The present owner has contacted Stanley Jones MBE, the lithographer and one of the founders of the Curwen Studio. Jones commented that a number of trial proofs of Still Life with Lemon were printed, each varying the yellow tone of the lemon. It is likely this work is one such proof, and was considered as the 'bon à tirer' impression prior to printing the edition.
