William Shayer, British 1787-1879- Cattle watering, with sheep, a drover, two dogs, woodland and a distant cottage; oil on canvas, signed (lower centre), 71 x 101.7 cm. Provenance: Herbert Kennard Collection. Note: The subject of the present work was one often adopted by Shayer, and he was extremely skilled in his ability to portray a sense of the bucolic English landscape. As in many of his works, a large portion of the canvas is here given to the representation of the sky, thereby imbuing the work with a sense of vitality and freedom.
