LOT 0006

William Watson (1831-1921)

[ translate ]

William Watson (1831-1921) Morning - Glen Lean, Argyllshire, Scotland signed and dated 'W. Watson 1900' (lower right); also signed and inscribed with title (to the reverse) oil on canvas 59 x 89cm

The painting is executed in oil on a linen canvas support which is unlined. The canvas tension is slightly slack and stretcher bar marks have started to form in the paint layers, following the wooden stretcher bar behind. Overall, the paint layers are in a good, stable condition. The varnish layer is slightly uneven in gloss but clear and even overall. There is a layer of surface dust and fine debris. The frame has been bronze painted while the picture was still in it, resulting in paint spatters across the surface, particularly in the lower right corner.
