Willy Ronis (French, 1910-2009) Shop Steward Rose Zehner Addressing Workers During the Strike at Citroën, Javel, Paris, 1938 Gelatin silver, 1997 13 x 10-1/4 inches (33.0 x 26.0 cm) Signed in ink lower margin recto. Titled and dated in pencil with the photographer's stamp verso. Willy Ronis took this photograph March 23, 1938 while working for the communist journal Regards. He did not print the underexposed negative at the time and forgot about it for 42 years. In 1980 he publishes the image in his book Sur le fil du hasard. Rose Zehner contacts Ronis and their reunion is the subject of a 1983 documentary Un voyage de Rose by Patrick Barbéris.
