Winslow Homer (American, 1836) "Eight Bells" Etching

DESCRIPTION: A Winslow Homer (American, 1836-1910)- "Eight Bells" etching on tan vellum paper depicting a maritime scene with two seamen.

The original painting is in the collection of the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, Massachusetts. The scene shows the sun breaking through the clouds after a storm, allowing wet mariners the chance to measure their location at noon (eight bells). This is a signed Homer etching after the original painting of this subject from 1886.

CIRCA: 19th Century.
ORIGIN: USA.
DIMENSIONS: Etching is H: 20" W: 25 1/2" Frame is H: 29 1/2" W: 34 1/2".
