Wisconsin Heavy Artillery Knapsack- ID'd
Original leather knapsack carried by Pvt. Isaac N. Clemans (sometimes "Clemens") of the 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery. Cover of the knapsack is stenciled "D 1st WI HA" in yellow, interior is stenciled twice with Clemans' name and unit information. Additionally, the interior bears the stenciled mark "Coan & Ten Broeke," a retailer in Chicago best known for manufacturing carriages, but during the war ostensibly made leather products to satisfy demand.
