Provenance: We only know of 3 of these wonderful wooden owls. We have another and a friend has the 3rd. These were hand carved in the late 1800's as advertising for Wise Owl Shoes. The carving details are excellent and very true to life as is the size at 19" t. x 9" w. x 6" d. The back is flat to set against a wall and/or on a shelf. His surface never had a finish applied. These were allowed to weather to give the soft wood a more realistic look to the feathers. He is in excellent condition. This beautiful fellow fits Folk Art, Trade Sign and Advertising genres perfectly. Or a I Love Him! category. Inv. 1600
