BABCOCK, HAROLD L.

The Turtles of New England. Boston: Society of Natural History, April 1919. This work extracted from Memoirs of the Boston Society of Natural History, Volume 8, Number 3. Modern blue cloth, the edges untrimmed. 12 x 9 1/2 inches (30.5 x 25 cm); with 14 color-printed heliotype plates by R. Deckert and 2 plain lithographed plates, paginated 327-431. Lightly toned and dust-soiled but fine overall.

A rare work apparently issued in a limited edition of only a few hundred copies subsidized by a grant from the Gurdon Saltonstall Fund. The heliotype plates particularly capture the varied designs of turtle shells.
