Wolf Kahn (American, b. 1927) , "Pond in Early Summer", 1982, oil on canvas, signed lower right, dated and inscribed "#104" en verso, titled, inscribed "#104" and "Meredith Long & Company, Houston, TX" label with artist and title on stretcher, 28 in. x 38 in., framed. Provenance: Meredith Long and Company, Houston, TX; Estate of James H. Stone, New Orleans, LA. Note: Wolf Kahn has been a full-time artist since 1950 and is considered one of the premier landscape artists of the twentieth century. Kahn’s work combines aspects of Realism, Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting for a style distinctively his own. “Kahn is an artist who embodies a synthesis of artistic traits - the modern abstract training of Hans Hofmann, the palette of Matisse, Rothko’s sweeping bands of color, and the atmospheric qualities of American Impressionism.” Kahn sees his landscapes as meditations on the world in which color relates light with subject and in which horizons, nature's dividing lines, are seamless fusions between sky and land. In the work offered here, the artist’s calligraphic brushstrokes and saturated colors combine to depict a landscape that is simultaneously descriptive and abstract. Ref.: “Biography.” Wolf Kahn. www.wolfkahn.com. Accessed Jan. 2, 2020. Yau, John. “Wolf Kahn at 90.” Wolf Kahn. New York: Ameringer |McEnery |Yohe, 2017. Dimensions:
