Victor Wolfvoet first worked as an art dealer and took up painting relatively late, shortly before his untimely death. His oeuvre is therefore relatively small and has not been extensively researched. Many of his works comprise small copper panels after Rubens, as is the case with this painting, in which he has copied Rubens's work "The Flight of Lot and his Family out of Sodom" (now in Sarasota, US) from the mirrored engraving by Lukas Vorsterman.
