Wonderful Coptic wood block for holding implements

A wonderful Coptic wood block for holding tools and implements, Roman Egypt, c. 1st - 5th Century AD, rectangular in shape with square profile, each side decorated with ten concentric circles in two rows of five, horizontal incised lines separate the lowest two circles. The top has been drilled with 5 holes for the storage of metal or bone tools or implements. Lot includes several Roman pins and tools, one surmounted by a bird. Block measures 4 3/4 x 1 1/2 x 1 3/8 in (12.1 x 3.2 x 3.2 cm); longest pin measures 6 3/4 in (12.1 cm). Block is well-preserved with minor surface loss and light mineral deposits. Ex estate of Seward Kennedy, New York. Mr. Kennedy worked for decades as a lawyer for the Mobil Corporation, and acquired his collection throughout decades of travel beginning in the 1950's.
