Wonderful Pair of Black Pyritized Ammonite- - Fossil fragment - Speetoniceras sp. - 340 mm - 310 mm
Very rare Speetoniceras ammonite.
The specimen stands out not only for its considerable size, 34 cm in diameter, but above all for the beauty of its fossilization.
The pyritization of animal tissues requires the presence of various concomitant conditions, such as the initial decomposition process by anaerobic bacteria which produces a quantity of sulphur, whose subsequent reaction with ferrous materials initiates the oxidation process to reach the final pyritization of the soft parts of the organism.
The beauty of this sectioned ammonite also lies in the exceptional, extremely elegant combination between the gold color of the pyrite and the black background, very rare compared to the shades of brown we are more commonly used to.
A wonderful piece of furniture that will add luster and decoration to any environment in which it will be placed.
Curiosity: in one of the 2 slices you can find the inclusion of a small Orthoceras.
