Wood Block Removed From 1927 Remodel of the White House
Relic

Wood block from the White House, removed during the 1927 renovation under President Calvin Coolidge. Measures 4" x 2.25" x 2.25". Accompanied by the rare original cardboard shipping box and "White House Timber" souvenir pamphlet from the National Lumber Manufacturers Association (NLMA). Expected wear, in overall very good plus condition.

The attached cardstock tag reads, in full:
"SECTION OF TIMBER REMOVED FROM THE WHITE HOUSE AFTER 112 YEARS OF SERVICE / For 112 years; during the residence of 26 Presidents of the United States, this fine piece of pine lumber helped support the roof of the Executive Mansion. / It was removed at the time of remodeling the White House in the summer of 1927, and was found to be in perfect condition. / It was originally built into the Mansion during the residence of President James Madison in 1815, following its burning by the British. It would have serviceably endured for hundreds of years more. / Presented by National Lumber Manufacturers Association".?

While the relics from the 1950 White House renovation were marketed and sold to the public on a retail basis, the official relics from the 1927 renovation were distributed by NLMA as promotional items and are much less common.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
