Woodblock (Yuyodo Published Commemorative Reprint) - Hashiguchi Goyo (1881-1921) - Woman Combing her Hair (Kami Sukeru Onna) - Limited edition (no 312) - Japan - 1970s The original is from 1920 and it is one of the most wanted images by Goyo. Please see image number 17 of the book "The Female Image; 20th Century Prints of Japanese Beauties" The offered print is a later impression from edition number 312 of a limited mintage (edition size: 750) of 6 prins. The edition number can be found on the original blue canvas album, not on the print itself – see last photo. The blue canvas album is not included. Hashiguchi Goyo is one of the most famous Japanese woodblock print artists of the 20th century. Goyo only lived to become 41 years old and his output is very limited (11 "bijin-ga", 4 landscapes, 1 "kacho-e") . His prints are extremely rare. Original Goyo prints are some of the most sought after woodblock print images nowadays, and very valuable. With the permission of Goyo's heirs, the publisher Yuyudo produced a small number of commemorative issues. These reprints were made according to the exact same standards as the originals. Expert woodcarvers were contracted and they produced woodblocks of the highest quality. The printers then made the reprints with the same attention to quality and detail as the originals. These magnificent reprints, printed on handmade paper, have the same colours and mica details as the originals. Impression: lush soft silver (pearl) "mica" background. Subtle 'bokashi' shading in the face. Excellent colours. Fine line work, have a look at the hair for example. Carved in great detail. A perfect duplication of Goyo's original. The print is sold with its original presentation folder. The print is stored in a beautiful inner folder enclosed in paper and protective lining and a sturdy outer folder (see picture 14-17) . Large oban size. Image dimensions, margins not included: 33 x 44 cm The woodblock print is in good condition, no mentionable issues. Please view the photos for the details. The woodblock print will be shipped by registered post in sturdy cardboard packaging.
