Title: Wooden standing Figure, Dogon people, Mali
Dimension: 21.5 x 6 x 6.5
Additional Information: Origin: Mali / A wooden figure made by the Dogon people. The face of this intriguing figure is barely recognisable. The wood has an aged look and several cracks, one of which runs over the face. Provenance: This item stems from the collection of Klaus Paysan (1930-2011), who was a German photographer and author. Paysan first visited the African continent in 1961. With a never ending interest and a deep passion he researched and collected tribal art on more than 100 trips. He always approached people with deep respect for the local customs and taboos. This respect and a great will to help were the basis for close friendships and several honorary titles in African families and secret societies. This closeness opened Klaus Paysan's door to an Africa that remains hidden to foreigners.
