Woolly Mammoth Tusk Mammuthus primigenius Pleistocene Alaska, USA Mammoths were aptly named elephantine beasts that lived during the "Ice Age" in permafrost areas of tundra in remote locations. The large-trunked proboscideans coexisted with humans, at least for a time. Presented on a most unique custom burl wood base, this enormous Woolly Mammoth Tusk from Alaska dating to the Pleistocene is visually spectacular and highly decorative, with a great story behind it. Such examples are prepared and polished for display, and this offering is smooth to the touch with significant color and attractive "brindle" patterning. In addition to typical and expected restoration, the tip was reattached and expertly repaired. The piece has some rough patches to the touch but is otherwise smooth over its curved form. The tapered offering is quite sizable, measuring well over 40 inches (102 cm) over its curve. An interesting and naturally sculptural remnant of Mammuthus, this is definitely centerpiece material. Overall Measurements: 41.00 x 21.50 x 17.00 inches (104.14 x 54.61 x 43.18 cm) Disclaimer: The sale or offer to sell, trade, barter, purchase, and transport of fossilized ivory, including that from Mammoths, is currently banned or restricted in nine US states. If you are a resident of New York, New Jersey, Illinois, New Hampshire, California, Nevada, Hawaii, Vermont, or the District of Columbia, you may not bid on a lot with fossilized ivory, including that from Mammoths. If you attempt to bid, your bid shall be canceled, and there shall be no sale. Legislation is constantly subject to change, and it is possible that other states may be added to the list at any time based on the passage of laws. Further, depending on the specific regulations, there might be restrictions or prohibitions on buying, selling, owning, transporting, and shipping ivory, including material from ancient animals such as Mammoths.
