Woolly Rhinoceros Jaw Section with Teeth Coelodonta antiquitatis Pleistocene Siberia, Russia This lower left section out of the jaw of a Woolly Rhinoceros represents the variety Coelodonta that was found in Russia. The golden-brown bony specimen measures well over 20 inches (51 cm) and still retains the majority of teeth in their original sockets – a substantial 5 out of 6 – with only the smallest "missing" from the order. A member of a considerable Megafauna prior to the mass extinction of the Pleistocene, Woolly Rhinoceros appear in cave paintings and was able to survive until the end of the previous glacial period. The molars, so well represented in this specimen, have a unique cavity for which the variety was named. This stabilized offering has a taupe-tan color over the bone, while the teeth are yellowish-white.
