Magnificent, in excellent condition, watercolour of the diligence from Honfleur after Trouville before departure. Very detailed painted with travellers, luggage, carriage with 4 horses, dog and coachman on a market square in Honfleur surrounded by houses, shops (including a Debit de Tabac or a tobacconist with wine and other goods. In the background, the church tower of Honfleur is visible. Signed in full on the bottom left. Wouterus Verschuur Jr. was born in Amsterdam in 1841 and died in Laussane 1936 as the son of the renowned horse painter Wouterus Verschuur and started as a pupil of his father. In 1859, he was registered as an apprentice with the Haarlem society 'Kunst zij ons Doel'. He lived and worked in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Menton, Paris, Geneva and Lausanne among other places. He painted, watercoloured and drew landscapes and stable interiors. Cityscapes with this subject were not known from him until now. The size of the watercolour itself is 40. 3 x 24. 3 cm and with mat 44 x 28 cm. The lot is framed behind museum glass in a beautiful frame.
