N.B.:
Wouterus Verschuur sr. was one of the most competent Dutch horse painters of the 19th century. His teacher P.G. van Os (1776-1839) showed him how to depict the animals vividly and realistically. From 1840, Verschuur was regarded as a very talented painter, for he knew how to give horses character in his paintings, as to be seen on the work on offer. Winter landscapes with figures and horses by his hand are rare and much sought after.
