196. Wright, Frank Lloyd . Typed Letter Signed "Frank Lloyd Wright" to Edgar Tafel discussing various things. 8vo, 1-1/2 pages written on a single sheet of Taliesin stationary, with holograph annotations on the first page; light wear, creased at fold, light hand-soiling, small tear at bottom crease.Tafel was Wright's former apprentice and worked with Wright on such important designs as Fallingwater, the Johnson Wax Building, and several "Usonian" houses.

Spring Green, Wisconsin, April 28, 1935 [400/600]

Dear Edgar -I've been rushing about since I returned, lecturing, etc. - and have neglected your letter. the $200.00 was "creative" at that end and immediately went to work at this end.It is alright to go to Washington or do anything either of you can do to promote our mutual stake in the Taliesin Fellowship. Use your own judgement in such matters when you can not get a response from me. This Washington matter looks a bit undignified again. A sideshow in a vestibule. A show made and sponsored by ourselves only. Can't we go into the Corcoran Art Gallery or some place to which we might look for, at least, an invitation and some credit? Also some financial cooperation. Why not a department store with Kaufman's [sic] help?I am getting restive concerning the show. We need you boys and we need the truck. The dump truck we have acquired is going all the time on road and dam-work, Can't we pull out there Shortly after the 1st of May without raising animosity too high? What importance do you attach to this desire to give me an official job? I am not inclined to take it too seriously. Were there something tangible in the prospect I might come down and on to Washington.Have yet had no word from Tom Maloney.Tell Bob I appreciated his letter and saw his forbears at Cranbrook. The lecture was a pleasant overflow occasion. Mr. Booth, the founder, was quite flabbergasted -- had never seen the like at Cranbrook and began talking about building a big hall. Another job for Saarinen, who was very nice. The Pavilion had 460 chairs for 650 people and several hundred had to be turned away unable to get into the place.I appreciate your folk's kindness to Bob, of which he speaks in his letter.Spring is here and beautiful as ever. We need you both at home. We are again caught short-handed and late with our work. This year we won't have such a big garden so we can easily take care of it.My best to you both, relatives and collaterals also."
