Wulfenite Defiance Mine, Radium, Burch area, Globe Hills, Globe Hills District, Globe-Miami District, Gila Co., Arizona, USA "A cluster if [sic] intergrown flat pagoda shaped bladed crystals up to about 1.5 inches. Got this specimen when I bought the Denny Sutherland collection." - Rock H. Currier Scratch any Arizona collector and, not far below surface, you'll find an absolutely endless reservoir of information about this most Arizonan of minerals: Wulfenite. Any true collector of same can instantly identify any given specimen's origin by sight alone. Pretty slick parlor trick, except any junior entrant in the TGMS competitive class can do it while chewing gum and tweeting their friends. Defiance Mine Wulfenites are one of the easier ones to identify due to the rather distinctive 'pointy' habit, frequently accompanied by 'saw-toothed' edges on some of the crystals. Color is all over the place, but is usually some variation on deep orange to brown: no real help there. This is definitely one of the nicer ones. Overall Measurements: 4.7 x 3.5 x 2.4 inches (12.0 x 9.0 x 6.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Denny Sutherland Collection [RHC #628, acquired 1966] MinID J60-FM5 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
