Wulfenite Red Cloud Mine, Silver District, Trigo Mts,...

[ translate ]

Wulfenite Red Cloud Mine, Silver District, Trigo Mts, La Paz Co., Arizona, USA "A good bright red 4 cm crystal on matrix. Got the specimen when I bought the Fred Devito collection in 2004. Fred collected the specimen on April 17, 1972. A bunch of us guys were on the same trip and we sure didn't get any specimens that good. The deposit has since been open pitted in two separate digs for wulfenites down most of the way to the haulage level and it is doubtful that few if any more specimens will come from this famous old mine. The scale under the specimen is an inch with a rule at one cm." - Rock H. Currier Who knows what the lust for Red Cloud Wulfenites can do? Every time the place gets 'worked' the story is pretty much the same: "That's it. It's gone. No more." Well, maybe. Until physical access is impossible, there will always be individuals with an eye towards opening that undiscovered pocket that's still - waiting down there. Most will get frustrated by: the dust, the difficult access, the heat (brutal in summer, when nobody sane goes there), the lack of: water, beer, sane friends, etc. Most will go home with little to show for the adventure except reddish snot and clothes to match. A few will get three cherries on the slot machine of life and make some bucks and have stories to bore their friends with in the old folks home. Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do you? Overall Measurements: 1.6 x 1.2 x 1.2 inches (4.0 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance Ex. Fred Devito Collection (Self-Collected by Fred Devito April 1972) [RHC #7210, acquired Mar 2004] MinID NLD-HR2 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
