\Artist: Wxyz
Technique: Acrylic on panel\Signature: Artist's stamp\Dimensions: 26_72,5_cm
Acrylic painting on school slates, original work from 2020. The slates are painted on the grid side, the paint partly covers the natural wood frame. This series of slates is emblematic of Wxyz's work because it has been working in schools for more than 20 years to convey to Parisian children his vision of a playful, colourful and accessible graffiti. This series is also a reflection on the digitalization of teaching materials and the risk of the disappearance of writing. #exclusiveartweek Wxyz was born in Paris in 1980, he grew up and still works today in eastern Paris. He owes his artistic awakening to the observation, from a young age, of wall inscriptions. When he was little, before learning how to read, the city was a great theatre of shapes for him. The letters of store signs and advertising posters fascinated him. The alphabet was something mysterious and magical for him. One day, when as he just learned how to read, he saw a subway train on the Line 2 which was entirely covered in graffiti that neither he nor his mother could read. What a surprise he had when he understood a letter could be drawn in a thousand different ways! Since then, he enjoys transforming letters and looking for new ways to draw Wxyz with ‘all the colours of the alphabet’ as he enjoys telling the children. Wxyz took part in numerous collective exhibitions and had 2 solos exhibitions in Paris in 2015 and 2020.
