Xu Hualing takes Gongbi figurative painting as the main pillar of her artistic journey. Beneath her brushstrokes are thoughtful and tender sentiments of a modern woman being revealed. In her work, Xu displays her perspective softly and effortlessly, vague yet with a hint of unique mysterious temperament of oriental aesthetics. Through the application of different shades in translucent stone-coloured paint and the traditional Gongbi brushwork technique of omitting the outline and filling of colours, Xu uses the "boneless painting method" to present a translucent image and a blurred visual effect. By exploring the subject of modern humanism, youth, time and gender, the artist's work portray a strong sense of time and generation. Aroma 2-7 presents a moment when the woman looks back in a portrait format that is filled with a sense of visual fluidity, delivering a sense of gentle and elegant nebulous beauty. Xu's delicate and perceptual presentation unveils the affectionate and sentimental characteristics of women, and reinterprets the transition of Gongbi figurative painting.

徐華翎以工筆人物畫作為藝術創作的主軸,她筆下柔美淡然的現代女性總是若有所思、欲言又止,處處顯露東方審美中獨有的神秘氣質。透過運用多種深淺不一、莫以名狀的透亮灰褐色,省略勾線填色的傳統重彩工筆技藝,徐華翎輕巧地利用「沒骨法」呈現具半透明感的畫面,以及模糊化的視覺效果。針對現代人文精神與生存經驗觸及青春時光、日常、性別等議題,讓描繪的女性形象具備時代感。《香2-7》當中以直幅呈現女子回眸的一瞬,畫面流溢若即若離的視覺流動感,予人溫婉雅致的朦朧美。徐華翎細膩的感性表現展現女性柔情似水的特質,重新詮釋工筆人物的風格化進程。
