YAOURE MASK, IVORY COAST Wood with a light patina, slight traces of dark patina. Dimensions: 45 cm Yaouré art is remarkable for its finesse and elegance. This mask features a stylized human face surmounted by a hornbill whose beak rests delicately against the forehead. The headdress of finely incised braids frames the upper part of the face. A frieze of small triangles surrounds the entire face. Broad eyebrows sit above the half-closed, slit-like eyes, and, together with the bridge of the nose, they contrast with the convex shape of the lower face, which ends in a thin, barely parted mouth. In very good overall condition. Expert: Coryse Mwape
