Yarkand

This rare Yarkand featuring a pomegranate design is from an old German private collection. The dark blue field displays a mirror-image composition of four turquoise trees which are literally overladen with red pomegranates. At each end of the field, two trees grow from small red vases towards the centre where their crowns almost touch. The red main border with a swastika meander design is flanked by two yellow meander borders. A comparative example published by Halevim shows the same combination.

Signs of age and wear. Low pile in places. Some repairs of diverging colours, including a larger repair in the centre of the upper third. Lower right corner replaced. New overcasting along the sides.
