Modeled after one of Yayoi Kusama’s most famous designs, these pumpkin sculptures render the optical patterns of polka dot with bright bold colors for which Kusama is perhaps best known. Kusama first used the pumpkin design at the 1993 Venice Biennale for the Japanese pavilion and since then it has appeared in various iterations, often created in concert with several of her other practices, such as her soft, phallic sculptures and her installations of monstrous flora.
