Yedioth Ahronoth sports supplement, Sunday, January 18, 1987.
The main headline features Moshe Sinai of Hapoel Tel Aviv: “If Beitar wins the championship, it will be 90% thanks to Uri (Malmilian) and 10% thanks to all the others.” A follow-up asks how much of that 10% belongs to Ohana: “Divide it among 10 players and see what’s left.” The quote proved prophetic, as Beitar Jerusalem won its first championship that season.
The issue also includes:
Arvydas Sabonis: the basketball legend praises Maccabi Tel Aviv after its European Cup game against Žalgiris Kaunas: “Your players give their soul; our problem is that we don’t fight like Maccabi’s players.”
Toto Cup: Maccabi Jaffa vs Beitar 3–3, and Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Yavne 2–2.
Youth national team: a draw vs New Zealand.
Maccabi Haifa: the club wants to trial a Jamaican player.
A historic newspaper featuring a young Sabonis and Beitar Jerusalem’s first championship season, of interest to collectors of Israeli football and basketball memorabilia. Condition: yellowed paper, folds and edge wear consistent with age.
