Yedioth Ahronoth sports supplement, Sunday, June 21, 1987.
The cover story covers Eli Ohana and KV Mechelen, from the summer after Mechelen’s historic 1987 European Cup Winners’ Cup triumph. The headline reports that the deal was in danger of “exploding, ” as Mechelen’s coach refused to release Ohana to the Israeli national team’s matches in Oceania.
The issue also covers the European Basketball Championship, where Israel played Greece. It features Doron Jamchy, who scored 16 points, and Miki Berkovich, with a photo of the two together. Nikos Galis scored 45 points for Greece in that game.
Other coverage includes the opening of Wimbledon 1987, with Boris Becker seeded first as two-time defending champion, and Beitar Jerusalem’s Intertoto win over Bnei Yehuda.
A historic newspaper from a golden era of Israeli sport, of interest to sports memorabilia collectors. Condition: yellowed paper, folds, and edge wear consistent with age.
