Yedioth Ahronoth sports supplement, Sunday, May 8, 1994.
The main headline, “End of the Football Season, ” reports that Maccabi Haifa all but sealed the championship in its legendary unbeaten 1993/94 season. Haifa won 3–1 in Herzliya, while Maccabi Tel Aviv lost 2–1 to Hapoel Petah Tikva, leaving Haifa 7 points clear with 4 rounds to go. A side story notes that Haifa scored 90 goals that season, a total surpassed only by Maccabi Tel Aviv in 1950/51.
The issue also includes:
Toto: “20,000,000,” with no winner of 15 correct results again, making it the biggest prize in Israeli football betting history.
Basketball: derby No. 2 in the final series, where a Maccabi Tel Aviv win would practically secure the title.
Liga Artzit: Beit She’an won in Hadera and could start celebrating promotion to the National League.
NBA playoffs: the Knicks vs the Bulls in the Eastern semifinal, and Phoenix vs Houston in the West.
A historic newspaper from Maccabi Haifa’s legendary unbeaten championship season, of interest to Maccabi Haifa fans and collectors of Israeli sports memorabilia. Condition: yellowed paper, folds, edge wear and small tears consistent with age.
