Yipwon hunting charm - Papua New Guinea

Sculpture called "Yipwon" from the Korewori river area in Papua New Guinea.
Yipwon is one of the most stylized and symbolic carvings in the Sepik River area. It represents a character in two dimensions with ribs, in some cases his heart located in part central and the head. Large specimens like this are placed in the Tambaran House (men's house) and are closely related to the warrior world. Its other name, wanleg (from the English "one leg") in English pidgin refers to all the figures of this style found in the region of the Korewori River.
