Yomut Ok Bash
mid 19th century, 52 x 65 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
The fraise field is filled with a dense repeat of small stepped polygons arranged in parallel rows and aligned vertically, instead of the usual horizontal configuration of these motifs. The stepped polygons of the narrow white border are also aligned vertically. The four points at the bottom have survived. Originally the sides and the four points would have been sewn up. The bag-like container was pulled across the ends of a tent pole bundle during the tribe’s migrations.
Condition
Pile slightly low. Selvedges missing on both sides.
